 C++ Introduction

You will receive a thorough introduction to the basic syntax and structure of the C++ programming language. You will create C++ applications that define variables and arrays and that use if statements, switch/case statements, for loops and while loops. You will create functions and pass information into functions by value and by reference using pointers. You will build applications made up of several files. This course is a good introduction for those that have never programmed before. You will need access to a C++ compiler. There are compilers available for download.

Lesson 1: Getting Started

Although C++ is a relatively old programming language, it is still widely used. It offers many advantages over other older and new languages including speed and portability. It is also the basis for many newer languages, including Java and C#.

During this lesson we will explore the background of C++ as well as how to build a basic C++ application. You will need a C++ compiler to complete this class. Fortunately there are several available for free. See the Resources section of this lesson for links. Please make sure you are comfortable using whichever compiler you choose to use by the end of the lesson. Your instructor may not be able to help you with your compiler if it is not one he or she has used.
