LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) provides a set of tools that web developers can use to design, develop, test and deliver web-based applications. This course will walk you through the process of installing and configuring the Linux operating system, the Apache web server, the MySQL database application and the PHP server scripting language. The course also covers how to maintain and trouble-shoot the system. You will also get a quick introduction to using PHP to create data-driven web applications. You will need a computer on which you can install the LAMP applications.

If you are interested in hosting a website, then LAMP is a cost-effective way to go. Even if you choose to purchsase hosting instead of doing it yourself, what you learn in this course will help you manage your server more effectively.
In this lesson we will explore the features of LAMP and install the first of the four applications we will be working with, Linux. We will take a look at how to plan an installation and perform an installation of Linux. The lesson will end with you logging into your Linux system for the first time.
